111 (F) Squadron Association Remembers
Air Vice Marshal Peter Spencer Collins, CB, AFC, BA, RAF (Rtd)
It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the death of Air Vice Marshal Peter Spencer Collins, CB, AFC, BA, RAF (Rtd), at the age of 87. Peter died on the 17 April 2017 in Farleigh Hospice, Chelmsford, after a long and hard-fought battle with the after-effects of cancer surgery.
He was commanding officer of 111(F) Sqn during it's "Lightning years" in the late 1960's.
Peter Collins had a phenomenal career in the RAF from 1950-1985, and then in civilian business from 1985-1995 with Marconi Defence Systems. No doubt, he will always be best remembered for his association with the English Electric (BAC) Lightning.
However, by his close family, and for many of us who had the pleasure of knowing and serving with him, he will be remembered as a strong, kind, thoughtful, man with unshakable integrity and fearsome intelligence.
A funeral will be held at St Andrew's Church, Boreham, Essex, CM3 3EG at 1400 on 3rd May 2017, and afterwards at The Lion Inn, Boreham, CM3 3JA. Donations may be made to The RAF Benevolent Fund (https://www.rafbf.org/ways-to-give/online-donation) or to Farleigh Hospice (https://www.farleighhospice.org/Fundraisers/donate-now).
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
